The reason is that some Japanese are trying to get their PS3's from abroad rather than in their own country because it is cheaper and Sony says this is counter productive considering that those consoles originated from Japan. I wouldn't blame Sony for this move because right now their still struggling to bring back the Playstation brand to the console gaming top spot and this activity by Japanese tourist would just hurt them more in the long run. Sony ceasing PS3 supply in South Korea
